Arriving by train

You should buy a through ticket to Bremen-Schönebeck, a suburban railway station within five minutes walk from campus. Trains from Bremen Main Station to Bremen-Schönebeck show Bremen-Vegesack or Bremen-Farge as final destination. They run every 30 minutes till late, leaving main station at 04 and 34 minutes past each hour from platform 5 or 6. During peak times, there are additional services at 19 and 49 minutes past each hour.

Should you end up at Bremen main station without a through ticket to Bremen-Schönebeck, you must buy a ticket at one of the ticket machines in the station. You cannot buy tickets on the train. Get a Tarif Zone II ("Preisstufe II") ticket at €3.10. You may have to validate the ticket by time-stamping it in one of the little blue boxes on the station platform.

When you arrive at Bremen-Schönebeck, take the stairs up the bridge, cross the bridge and follow the road (which turns into Bruno-Bürgel-Straße). You will reach the Jacobs main gate (B in map below) after approximately 500m.

Arriving by air

Bremen Airport is located close to the city center. As a hub of Ryan Air, it offers convenient direct flights to many European destinations, as well as generally good international connections via Frankfurt, Paris, or Amsterdam.

Arriving at the airport, take Tram 6 up to Bremen Hauptbahnhof (main station), then follow the instructions above to Bremen-Schönebeck station for a five minute walk to campus. There is a ticket machine on the tram which takes Euro coins, get a Tarif Zone II ("Preisstufe II") ticket at €3.10 which is valid all the way to Bremen-Schönebeck. Total travel time from Bremen Airport to Jacobs University is approximately one hour.

A person from local organization will meet you at the Bremen airport upon your arrival (look for a person with the poster with the Jacobs logo and/or ITYM logo). We will try to offer a limited shuttle service from Bremen Airport to campus. Priority is given to minors. Participants who would like to use the shuttle must let us know of their flight number and scheduled arrival time in advance.

In case you lost at the Bremen main station you can always call +49 421 200-3210 and a person from local organization will help you with directions.

It is worth checking for convenient connections to Hamburg or Hannover as well. Both airports have train connections to Bremen within two hours travel time. Intercontinental travelers may want to check for cheaper direct flights into Amsterdam or Frankfurt. Train travel to Bremen takes about five hours, see information on Arriving by Train above.

Bank Transfer Details for Participation Fee

All requested fees must be paid before July 1, 2014 by bank transfer to the account specified below. If you experience any problems with the money transfer, please contact itym@jacobs-university.de immediately.

Option 1: International Bank Transfer using IBAN and BIC

To avoid misdirection of funds, it is important that you specify both project number and your name in the format requested.

Option 2: Highly recommended - payment via peerTransfer

Jacobs University Bremen gGmbH has partnered with peerTransfer to offer a payment option for international students which avoids often high fees for regular bank transfers and permits online tracking of the payment process for students and the university. If you use peerTransfer, you will be notified via email when the payment is received by Jacobs University. Money is expected to be transferred within two working days.

Accommodation and meals

All participants will be accommodated in guest houses on the campus. Meals and tea/coffee breaks will be provided.
